A new store design, for tomorrow's makers

ALDI SÜD has signed a long-term lease for around 1,500 square metres of retail space at Die Macherei, a mixed-use development in Munich's Berg am Laim district, with the store set to open in autumn 2021.

Die Macherei is a 26,400-square-metre office and commercial quarter across six buildings designed by HWKN, Holger Meyer Architektur, and OSA Ochs Schmidhuber, with around 74,400 square metres of leasable space and room for up to 2,500 employees once complete. The development won a five-star European Property Award in 2019 to 2020.

"Die Macherei's concept won us over from the first moment," says Justus Rehn of ALDI SÜD's Munich real estate team. "We fit here seamlessly, both in design and with our modern range." Tobias Wilhelm, a partner at Art-Invest Real Estate in Munich, called ALDI SÜD "a strong partner for the retail space," adding that the store concept tailored to the quarter "brings out Die Macherei's character excellently."
